Playboy Brings Back Nudity, Saying Its Removal Was a Mistake

Playboy is finally bringing back nude photographs, after new chief creative officer, Cooper Hefner, said the decision to remove nudity entirely "was a mistake" after tweeting late last week "Today we're taking our identity back and reclaiming who we are."

The iconic magazine busted taboos by featuring photos of completely naked women when it was founded by Hugh Hefner in 1953, but moved to more PG13 content in October 2015 after its website increased traffic by ditching nudity earlier that year.

Now, Cooper Hefner has confirmed the return of naked ladies back to its pages.

"I'll be the first to admit that the way in which the magazine portrayed nudity was dated, but removing it entirely was a mistake. Nudity was never the problem because nudity isn't a problem."

"My dad's aim when launching Playboy was to promote a healthy conversation about sex while also encouraging dialogue on social, philosophical and religious opinions. Nonetheless, many misinterpreted that message or missed it entirely, choosing instead to focus on the magazine's unapologetic portrayal of nudity and its revolutionary approach to sex."

The March/April 2017 issue of Playboy, is the first to bring back nudity and features model Elizabeth Elam topless on the cover alongside the headline 'Naked is normal', while also featuring an essay by actress Scarlet Bryne about the free the nipple campaign.

However, Playboy will drop the subtitle, "Entertainment for men" from its covers. "Playboy will always be a lifestyle brand focused on men's interests, but as gender roles continue to evolve in society, so will we" Cooper Hefner says.

It will, though, revive some of its old franchises, including The Playboy Philosophy and Party Jokes.

Playboy's circulation has dropped from its peak 5.6 million in the 1970s to below 700,000 in 2016.

However, the magazine's logo showing a rabbit head wearing a bow tie is one of the most recognizable logos in the world.

The March/April Issue will be released on February 28th and will be sure to hit our site within the next few weeks so keep an eye out people! It's going to be a goody!
