So, I got both this and the Blue version, which I found to be superior in both texture and construction. While it's not BAD, and the design is unique, its texture isn't nearly as interesting as the Blue version and my one had the hinge break after its very first use during cleaning. I'm hardly rough with my toys, either. I know how to take care of them and make them last, so it wasn't just that I was handling it poorly. I can't assume that ALL versions have this flaw, or that its unique to the Red version, but I can only report on my subjective experience. If you're interested in one of these, I'd grab the Blue version personally. But at $40 or so, I still consider it fairly good value even if my one wasn't very sturdy.
